History

In 1947, Dr. N. R. Pathak began a transformative journey. He provided shelter to an orphaned newborn at his home. His mother, Smt. Seetabai Pathak, and brother, Mr. B. R. Pathak, supported him. This act marked the birth of Pathak Anathashram.

By 1955, the orphanage moved to Pathak Hospital Miraj. The number of children grew. The Pathak family sought sustainability. In 1969, they established the Pathak Trust. The Trust is registered with the Charity Commissioner Sangli office with Registration number E-279. They contributed a substantial corpus of cash and fixed assets. The founding trustees included Smt. Seetabai Pathak, Mr. Bhausaheb Pathak, Mr. Bhimrao Awati Patil, and Mr. R. S. Tatke. Smt. Seetabai donated land. In 1977, Mr. Anantrao Ranade and his brothers gifted land in Brahmanpuri. Construction there finished in 1984.

Over the decades, the Trust has helped over 300 children. It facilitated over 100 adoptions. Many inmates and their next generations are now well-placed in society. From 1947 to 1984, the institution sheltered 35–40 children at a time. It provided education and employment opportunities. For girls, it arranged marriages after proper upbringing.

From 1950 to 2003 Dai Training course was available at Pathak Hospital Miraj. This Free midwifery training course enabled more than a hundred women gain employment and self reliance. The Trust also supported destitute women. It offered rehabilitation through Mahilashram in the past.

In 1990, the Trust addressed the elderly’s needs. It established Pathak Vruddhashram at Gadre Wada, near Muralidhar Temple, Miraj. The home offers affordable care. It has served over 60 elderly individuals since inception. Currently, it supports 15–20 elderly residents.

The Trust is the only licensed Specialized Adoption Agency in Sangli district. It cares for 20–30 children. The granted capacity is 20 children up to 6 years and 20 from 6 to 18 years. However, the existing facilities fall short of current norms. To address this, Dr. Viraj Lokur from Miraj offered land near Magdum Mala on Pandharpur Road. The land came at a concessional rate. Construction of new children’s and old age home buildings began in May 2023. The auspicious start was marked by Shri Sadguru Zende Maharaj Miraj. This expansion aligns with official guidelines.
